The Dutch countryside is quiet. The bomb craters have been covered, the buildings have been rebuilt, the war is over. Isabel lives alone in her late mother's empty house, following a strict and absolutely disciplined routine. But everything changes when her older brother Louis brings his unlucky new girlfriend, Eva, to stay with her as a guest for a while.
Eva is the opposite of Isabel: she goes to bed late, wakes up late, makes a fuss and touches things she shouldn't. So, little by little, Isabel's anger flares up so much that it reaches the limits of obsession. So when various objects start disappearing from the house – a spoon, a knife, a paper cutter – her suspicions increase and she doesn't want to leave Eva alone. In the heat of summer, paranoia gives way to a mystery that overturns everything Isabel knew. Neither Eva nor the house are what they seem. After all, the war may not really be over...
