"Arearea" Paul Gauguin Puzzle

1000-piece puzzle depicting Paul Gauguin's work "Arearea".

In April 1891, Gauguin embarked on his first trip to Tahiti, seeking contact with a primitive way of life. From this trip, he was inspired to create a collection of works depicting life, religious ceremonies, and the natural environment in Tahiti, as he experienced it himself.

In the center of the painting, two seated female figures dominate, while in the background, a group of worshipers expresses their devotion in front of an oversized statue. The painting is vertically bisected by the trunk of a tree.

An idealized Polynesia, where people are protected by the gods, living in a generous natural environment. This was the Tahiti that Gauguin conveyed to us in his works.

The painting, created in 1892, was exhibited in Paris in 1893, and while it was disapproved of by the public and friends, Gauguin himself considered it one of his best works, which is why he bought it back before definitively leaving Europe.
