The Purple Umbrella-Alki Zei

Shortly before the war of 1940, somewhere in Maroussi, Eleftheria, a ten-year-old girl, lives with her parents, whom her twin younger brothers call Letro and when they get angry with her, Laveran's plasmodium. She detests housekeeping and "women's" chores, while she goes crazy for anything her father does not approve of: She reads books voraciously, can't wait to see the theater, sneaks glances at the newspaper, wishes one day to resemble Sophocles' Antigone.

On the top floor of their house, Mr. Marcel, a Frenchman who lives permanently in Greece, has under his protection his nephew Benoit who becomes the children's inseparable friend. Their toys are few: marbles, spinning tops, a rope, a yoyo and a pair of roller skates. Their imagination is boundless: together they invent a thousand and two stories that enchant them too. And how many more would they think of doing if the adults didn't stop them...

The adults and the children. Two worlds so distant that no matter how many years pass, their laws and their language will never be the same. Each one carries their own truth. That's why many can hide behind a purple umbrella!
